Our Story

From a Single Trade Store to a National Enterprise

The story of Seeto Kui (Holdings) Ltd is a remarkable testament to the power of perseverance, vision, and commitment to community. It began in 1914 when a young man named Seeto Kui arrived in Rabaul, East New Britain, from Canton, China, at just 13 years of age. He came to work as a tailor, but his entrepreneurial spirit would soon take him further.

After managing a trade store in the then-thriving town of Salamaua, Morobe, Seeto Kui built a business with strong foundations. In 1952, his son James E. Seeto took over — a pivotal moment that transformed the modest enterprise into a multi-branch operation. Alongside brothers Robert, Ronald, and Danny, James diversified aggressively, establishing a presence across Papua New Guinea.

The acquisition of Ardrossan Investments Pty Ltd (trading as Bowmans – Lae) in 1991 marked another milestone, adding hardware and construction to an already diverse portfolio. By 2005, a strategic amalgamation unified all operations under the Seeto Kui (Holdings) Ltd banner, creating one of PNG's most capable and resilient corporate entities.
